area) bar/restaurant, hairdressers, post office and a general
store. Within the village itself there is horse riding,

The
Vendée caters for every need for the holiday maker,
whatever you wish to do, to go or to see it is here in the
the area south of the Loire.
A few suggestions, all within easy distance of St. Etienne
du Bois. Most of the beaches of the Vendée
receive regular European Blue Flag accolades for their cleanliness
and water quality. If you wish to Surf the best places are
between St. Gilles and Les Sables D'Olonne/Tranchet and
between Longeville and La Tranche.
Are you a Birdwatcher? Ornithologists are spoiled for choice.
The area is a migratory route for many species. The region
is a popular nesting area for avocets, terns, and lapwings.
Herons, egrets and other marshland birds are regularly seen
on the salt meadows and wetlands of the Marais Breton, Other
wetland areas include the lake of Grand Lieu, and L'Aiguillon
Bay.
Cycling is a favorite pastime for the French and there are many
local trails well signposted. You can cycle the 150kms of
the Atlantic cycleway or use the super smooth cycle track
that runs along a disused railway line from La Roche sur
Yon via Aizenay, Coex and soon to reach St.Gilles Croix
de Vie.
Fishing is available in two lakes within the village only
150 metres from the Gite. A daily licence cost only 8 euros.
Other lakes at Legé
just 6 kms up the road, and at Aizenay. Sea fishing also
available.
Golf is possible at five 18 hole courses, two of them within
10 miles, one at St. Jean de Monts and the other at Fontenelles
near Coex.
Hotels, restaurants
and open air markets abound. Plenty of places to eat drink
and be merry.
