Les Draps d'Or, Ardres - Bed and Breakfast Les Draps d'Or, Ardres - Bed and Breakfast

Since the construction of this charming property in 1630 (first mentioned in the town tax records of that time) its use has been to accommodate guests, either as an Inn, a hotel and latterly during the war, a boarding school for girls. The current owners Hilary and Patrick still continue the tradition of welcoming guests from all over Europe and even America who are passing through for holidays and adventures in France.

The house is located in the heart of the historic town, next to the church, shops and restaurants. The lake at Ardres is just 10 minutes walk away from the house.

Parking is easy either park your car near the house or in the old cobbled square opposite and if the garage is free, just ask in advance if you wish to store your motor bikes, bicyles or even golf clubs.

Breakfast is served in the Salon which is reserved for guests use with games available such as scrabble or cards and many paperbacks left by kind guests passing through.

We have three bedrooms equipped with a bathroom, plus an extra room for the "family". The theme of Draps d'Or (sheets of gold) is captured in the decor with each room dressed in yellow gold, but each in a different way!

The area

Situated 20 minutes from the shopping centre at Cite d'Europe and the town of St Omer, this is an ideal base to visit the region around Calais, or just to stay over night on a shopping trip in northern France.

The town of Ardres sits next to a lake which is very popular during the summer for boating and watersports and close to the site of Field of the Cloth of Gold - the famous spot where Henry Vlll of England and Francois l of France displayed there wealth to show who was the greatest ruler. Hence the name of house now.

Ardres is a pretty town with several small shops, including a patiserie, boulangerie, florist, grocers and gift shop. It offers a real 'taste' of France.

There are many restaurants offering wide range of menus to suit all pockets. From typical French Bistro restaurants to the high quality dining experiences.

Restaurant Francois le Premier - named after the French king, is set in the corner of the cobbled square and is one of the top restaurants in the area. The food here is a taste of modern French cuisine, the restaurant has limited opening and booking is advisable but not necessary - visit their site by clicking here.
