Nine hundred years of romantic history lie sealed within our castle walls. Its turbulent past now only a distant memory, the Château d’Alogny has been lovingly restored to meet contemporary standards of comfort and convenience, without sacrificing historical integrity.
Alogny enjoys modern facilities that include a well-equipped modern kitchen and under-floor central heating. Nevertheless, it retains to the full its mediæval character, with massive stone walls, beamed ceilings and huge fireplaces in the spacious, interconnecting rooms. The four levels are united by a large stone spiral staircase within the semi-octagonal tower.
In summer, when most activity is outside, the large, secluded swimming pool is a natural gathering place. The views across the Creuse valley from the pool patio are spectacular. Underwater lighting enables the pool to be used at night.
The Rooms
Great Room: A spacious, high-beamed room adjacent to the kitchen, and opening onto the garden. The massive XIVth Century fireplace burns continuously in cold weather, making this a natural gathering place. The Great Room, with its long refectory table, serves also as a dining room.
In summer, particuarly on warm evenings, most meals are taken al fresco on the circular north patio, gathered informally around the long trestle table.
Kitchen: well designed, and fully equipped with dishwasher, induction stovetop, convection oven, microwave and refrigerator, the kitchen conveniently adjoins the dining room without, in any way, distracting from the mediaeval ambiance.
Family Room: This large space normally serves as a sitting room and games room. It can also provide a good area for yoga classes when needed. It contains a TV, VCR, CD, DVD and computer for the use of guests. The family room can also provide overflow accommodation as necessary.
Bathrooms: Alogny has four bathrooms and four toilets. Pictured is the master bathroomm which has two sinks, a shower, and a jacuzzi tub. The door gives direct access to the old moat terrace.
Bedrooms
The Château has five double bedrooms, one with twin beds, and readily accommodates ten guests. In addition, the large family room, which is particularly suitable for young people, contains another two beds if needed. Most bedrooms include spacious sitting areas. Additional single beds are available when needed.
Tower Room: A lofty room with double bed at the top of the tower, enjoying superlative views over the Val de Creuse.
Master Bedroom: A large room with double bed, dominated by a fine renaissance fireplace. The large West window gives sweeping views across the valley and makes this a very light room. En suite bathroom (Jacuzzi & shower, separate toilet). Private access to the East terrace.
Salon Bedroom: A magnificent twin-bedded room with fine XIVth Century fireplace. En suite bathroom (shower) and separate toilet. Enjoys fine views and has private access to the circular North Terrace.
Large West Terrace Bedroom: A spacious room at the foot of the tower, with double bed. Private access to the West Terrace. A short flight of steps leads down through a curtained Norman archway to the cellar alcove, a cool, tranquil retreat in hot weather. Shared en suite bathroom (shower) & toilet.
Small West Terrace Bedroom: An attractive room of great character, with French Windows opening onto the West Terrace. Double bed. Shared en suite bathroom.
Thea area
The Château d’Alogny lies in beautiful, tranquil countryside only an hour’s drive from the magnificent châteaux of the Loire Valley. Many attractions are to be found within easy distance. The healing waters of La Roche Posay, a 5 km bike ride from Alogny, have drawn visitors since Roman times. In addition to specific therapies, guests can indulge themselves with a variety of massage and other spa treatments. The old town has narrow, winding streets. The ancient donjon has recently been restored and will soon become a museum. La Roche Posay also possesses a famous casino, a golf course, an equestrian centre and a racetrack, in addition to all regular shops and facilities, including bike rentals.
