Activities
There are literally thousands of days out in the region to keep you entertained. Here are some of our highlights.
Grottes de Trabuc caves
Languedoc-Rousillion is honeycombed with caves and caverns, forming one of the richest areas of subterranean landscape in France. About 15 of them are open to the public. They contain extraordinary shapes, stunning colours, narrow passages and vast chambers.... and some surprising images that seem to be sculpted from rock, such as the hundred thousand soldiers of the Grotte de Trabuc, or the Medusa's head in the Grotte de Clamousse. In these mineral kingdoms, lakes and rivers sometimes appear.
Bouscarasse Childrens Water Park
This theme park, situated in the Bouscarasse Forest is open to the public from June to September. Swimming Pool, tube slides and lazy rivers as well as waterways, make this a good place to relax and have fun.
Nimes
2000 years old with numerous landmarks including the oval shaped amphitheatre and the famous Pont du Gard are mixed with the modern influences such as Norman Foster's glass vessel. Nimes is famous for the Camargue, bullfighting, textiles (denim originated here), gastronomy and shopping.
Local Markets
Famous throughout Provence, Uzes Saturday market is held in the Place du Herbes. Enjoy some fresh oysters bought to your table at a cafe from the stall across the road and washed down with a bottle of local white or rose wine. But ladies beware of the Brebi Cheese seller - you have been warned!
Golf
Golf Club d'Uzes, the 18 hole golf course is situated between the Camargue and the Cevennes, two steps away from the cities of Nimes and Avignon. From the imposing Gard Bridge, you will enjoy the beauty of Uzes with ts "Place aux Herbes", "Duchy" and "Tour Fenestrelle".
