La Nublière *** - Doussard - Rhône-Alpes
La Nublière camp site is situated on the shores of the famous Lake Annecy. You can walk straight to the beach from the level grounds, unless you prefer to take your towel and lie on one of the lawns. Either way you will have wonderful views of the lake and the enormous mountain peaks, and it's only a few steps to the restaurant for a drink, an ice cream or a snack. You can rent surfboards or sailing boats in the little harbour close by, or go water skiing; and if that's not exciting enough there is rafting and parasailing close by. You must not miss Annecy; a beautiful historic centre with small bridges, flowers, shops and excellent restaurants. It's more peaceful in the mountains; wonderful walks, rock climbing or mountain biking!

La Pinède lies on the renowned Lake Geneva. You can walk along its sandy shores right from the camp site. You can laze around in the sun and the water slopes down very gently making it ideal for small children. Surfboards and boats can be rented, there is play equipment and there are beach kiosks for cool drinks. The soaring peaks of the Swiss Alps make a stunning background. The camp site is very natural with pleasant secluded pitches under the pine trees and bushes, and a gently sloping terrain. The large camp shop has all you need for your daily supplies and there is a restaurant. Breathtaking roads through the Alps take you high up to Habère-Poche, and how about a day in Geneva (27km) or Montreux in Switzerland (60km).

Domaine de Chaussy **** - Ruoms/Lagorce - Rhône-Alpes
It's impossible to be bored at Domaine de Chaussy. You'll never find your children, for there are no fewer than four swimming pools (including a shallow pool for the smallest children) where they can make new holiday friends. There is a mini club with lots of great activities for youngsters. You might want to take a nap on one of the sun loungers at the edge of the water. Or maybe something more active? Then head for the tennis couts, rent a mountain bike, try archery or relax over a game of billiards or jeu de boules.There are regular evening activities and dances organised in high season. And if you still have surplus energy go canoeing the next day under the Pont d'Arc and pull up on one of the many beaches. There are street cafes and restaurants in the lovely Ruoms and in Joyeuse en Aubenas.

l'Ardéchois **** - St. Sauveur-de-Montagut - Rhône-Alpes
The Ardèche Is mostly known for its river of the same name, and the same should go for the Glueyre! The family camp site l’Ardéchois sits on this crystal clear river (swimming, fishing and boating). Dutch run, but with a real French charm, this is true international camping in stunning natural surroundings. The centre point of this well run, terraced terrain is a lovely swimming pool with separate shallow toddlers' pool. Games and activities are organised in high season and you can take canoe and climbing trips in the beautiful surroundings. The friendly restaurant, youth centre and playground make this site highly recommended for families with children. But you'll still have get out occasionally because lovely drives through the country lanes will take you to Privas, Aubenas and the Ray-Pic waterfalls. The Ardèche at its best!

Aux Rives du Soleil *** - Pont-de-Vaux - Rhône-Alpes
Les Peupliers camp site lies right on the River Saône. So don't forget your inflatable boat! There's excellent swimming from the banks and from the landing stages. The pitches on the level terrain are screened by hedges. There are two fields for touring campers, a brand new swimming pool, a playing field with apparatus and a separate safely enclosed toddlers' pool. There are children's trampolines, a small children's farm and ponies are regularly brought to the site. There is an unusual bric a brac shop in an old 17th century farmhouse. Boats can be hired on site for fishing or you can hire a bike for a 3km trip to Pont de Vaux where boat trips depart. There is a theme park 25km away, and the cultural treasure chest of Burgundy is something for real Francophiles!
