The House at Chez Tranquard has been beautifully renovated with exposed beams and stonework to the interior. The house has five bedrooms, a private swimming pool, two patio areas and a large garden. There is parking to the front of the property for 2 to 3 cars.

Set in rolling countryside just to the north of St.Savinien in the Charente Maritime. The region gets as exceptional amount of sunshine comparable to the Med regions but is only four and a half hours drive (244 miles) from the port of St.Malo.

The local town of St.Savinien is 5 minutes away.

Self catering accommodation

There is a large fitted kitchen with electric hob/oven, fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave, cutlery, crockery, cooking and serving utensils are also supplied. There is a dining room with a large refectory table which seats 10 and an indoor barbecue set into the open fireplace.

The large lounge has a beautiful open fireplace and has been recently renovated and restored to a very high standard which highlights the beautiful stonework and exposed beams.

Found in the lounge is a varied selection of books and childrens' games for your entertainment.

There is a double bedroom on the ground floor and also two shower rooms with Power shower, WC and hand basin.

The house has five bedrooms, one double bedroom on the Ground floor, and on the First floor, one double and three twin bedrooms. Duvets and pillows are provided but guests are asked to provide their own linen and duvet covers.

There is a large patio area with garden table, ten chairs and a purpose built barbecue leading on to the large secluded garden which has swimming pool and a second secluded patio area. The pool (11 mtrs x 5 mtrs) has a paddling area for toddlers. There is a selection of bikes of differing sizes for the use of guests.

Location

The local town of St.Savinien is 5 minutes away. Built on the banks of the river Charente from which the region takes its name, it has cafes, bars and restaurants, a supermarket and all the local amenities you should require. Its harbour, once used to export brandy, wine, salt, cereals and also the local sandstone is now a popular place for leisure craft and river cruises.

Local Attractions
There are a multitude of beautiful beaches running from La Rochelle, Chatellelion and Fouras in the north, to Royan, St George de Didonne and Suzac in the south. They range from sheltered coves backed by pine trees to vast sandy beaches with expansive Atlantic breakers. There are also many beach resorts, large and small, with their attractive promenades, restaurants, shops and bars.

In St Savinien there is an outdoor swimming pool and a large park which has a boating lake where the children can sail on some miniature boats including a trawler, cargo ship, Mississippi steamboat etc.

At Port d'envaux there is a lovely picnic area by the river where you can also enjoy a swim or a ride in the pedlos.

St. Jean de Angely is a lovely market town with plenty of restaurants and amenities for example, the Atlantys leisure complex with a 54mtr flume, saunas and steam room etc. Also there is a large lake where you can hire canoes or pedlos.

The Islands Easily accessible by spectacular viaducts or by ferry. They have individual characteristics and many glorious features.

* The island of Oleron (Grand Plage is a must, miles and miles of golden sands).

* Ile de Re (the town of St Martin with its lovely port, restaurants and shops).

* Ile de Aix (there are no cars allowed, you travel by ferry and can hire bikes to ride round the island. You may prefer to walk or ride the horse drawn carriages. It is a wonderful day out and not to be missed).

Historical Sites
* The fortified old harbour of LA ROCHELLE.
* The vauban fort of FOURAS.
* The wonderful chateaux LA ROCHE COURBON, CRAZANNES and DOUHET.
* The 17th century walled town of BROUAGE.
* The ramparts of Taillebourg.
* The ROMAN AMPITHEATRE , Baths and Germanican arch in the beautiful town of SAINTES.
* The Royal Ropeworks, arsenal and maritime museum at ROCHEFORT.

More Modern Attractions
* The ZOO at LA PALMYRE.
* The Aquarium at Port de Minimes in LA ROCHELLE, which is a lovely town having a wonderful ambiance with the street buskers and shops and restaurants.
* The lively town of ROYAN where you can visit the wonderful beaches, go horse racing and eat in the multitude of fish restaurants.
* FUTUROSCOPE is situated in POITIERS, which is just over an hour's drive.
* The oyster farms at Marennes.
* There are a fine selection of distilleries at COGNAC that you can visit for a tour and taste of the goods eg. Hennessy, Martell, Remy, Otard and Camus Bisquet.

There are four GOLF COURSES in the local area.

For anyone who is exhausted just reading the attractions, which are all under an hour's drive away, you may just want to laze by the pool or perhaps have a scenic country walk, not too far to go, starts across the street! I'm sure you will enjoy your holiday and don't forget to spend some time just sitting in any of the town squares with a refreshment and watch the world go by.
