2 bedroom, ground floor apartment, sleeps 4. in south-west France, hidden away in glorious Charente countryside in the grounds of the Chateau de Charras. The Chateau and its estate have been tastefully converted into a splendid holiday destination with a HEATED SWIMMING POOL AND TWO TENNIS COURTS..
Le Chatelard is an attractive building in the grounds of the chateau, which has been tastefully restored. The apartment has it's own terrace with table and chairs to enjoy "al fresco" eating.
Guests share the 13 acres of walled private grounds and all the facilities, including the 15m x 6m heated swimming pool with sun terrace, loungers and two tennis courts. The pool is open from 25 May to 25 September.
The beautiful gardens have lovely walkways through avenues of lime trees, stone balustrades and staircases.
There are also large grassed areas where you could enjoy a game of boules or a picnic whilst admiring the far reaching views.
The gardens are listed by the French Government as a Monument Historique.
The Area
Charras is situated 25km south of Angouleme. It is set in lush countryside and offers many places to walk and cycle in the surrounding forest. Charras is a small village with a boulangerie, selling fresh bread and pastries, a general store, stocking most everyday requirements and a bar restaurant, all a short walk from the chateau.
There are 5 golf courses well within one hours drive.
Charras is within easy access of the famous chateaux of the Medoc vineyards and the medieval town of Cognac with its brandy distilleries, with are well worth a visit.
The picturesque towns of Brantome (described as the Venice of the Dordogne), Angouleme and Perigueux are just a short drive away.
The large network of underground caves at The Villars Grotto are nearby, close to Brantome. There are also many colourful markets in the area.
For people who enjoy good food and wine there are numerous excellent and inexpensive restaurants nearby.
For a longer day out you can visit La Rochelle on the Atlantic Coast, Bordeaux or Futuroscope at Poitiers.

Apartment 9 at Le Chatelard is a 2 bedroom ground floor apartment sleeping 4 people, with 1 double room and 1 twin room, bathroom, living/dining room/kitchen with high ceilings and beautiful windows.
There is a television (English channels) with DVD player and stereo with CD player..
The fitted kitchen is well equipped with oak units, fridge/freezer, oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.
The apartment has its own patio area overlooking the central courtyard with table, chairs and barbeque. This is a lovely spot to enjoy a meal and a glass of wine.
Bedding and towels provided.
Guests are requested to bring their own swimming towels.
For winter there is underfloor heating and an open fire (logs can be arranged on request).
