The charm of Chez Lombard is that it offers a great place for a holiday for a couple, or a group of any size up to 14. The 2 restored cottages, with pool, lie among vineyards & fields of sunflowers with lovely views of the Charente countryside. An ideal place for relaxing by the pool or, for the more energetic, walking or cycling on the quiet country roads. If the 2 cottages are taken together, they offer lots of space for people to be together when they want, or to have quiet times on their own. Out of season, the small cottage is ideal for couples wanting a quiet break.
Our property at Chez Lombard consists of three cottages, two of which are to let. These have been recently restored, and may be taken individually or together.
Chez Lombard is a great place for a holiday for a couple, or for a group of any size up to fourteen. It lies among vineyards and fields of sunflowers with lovely views of the Charente countryside. It is an ideal place for relaxing by the pool or, for the more energetic, walking or cycling on the quiet country roads.
If you feel like venturing beyond Chez Lombard there are safe river beaches and lakes for canoeing and swimming within half an hour's drive. There is a nine-hole golf course, moto-cross and horse riding at a similar distance.
Ten minutes drive away are the towns of Montmoreau and Villebois-Lavalette each of which has a bank, post office, supermarkets and other shops. There are tennis courts in each of these places.
Each cottage is suitable for wheelchairs, and there is safe access to the pool surrounds. In addition to small individual barbecues there is a communal one for the two cottages.
LARGER COTTAGE (SLEEPS 8 - 10)
This cottage keeps many of its original features. The large living area has French doors which overlook the fields and beyond. The fully equipped kitchen has a dishwasher, washing machine, cooker, fridge-freezer and microwave. There is a sofa-bed in the lounge area.
The ground floor has one en-suite double bedroom as well as a separate bath/shower room.
Upstairs is a twin bedroom, a double bedroom and a large bedroom which can sleep four or more children, making a total of ten or eleven people. The terrace and small garden have tables and barbecue equipment.
SMALLER COTTAGE (SLEEPS 2 - 4)
This also has been recently restored and retains much of its character, with exposed beams and original fireplace with a wood burning stove. It offers fine views of the countryside from its two bedrooms and living room.
The twin bedroom and double bedroom each has French doors leading on to a terrace with tables and chairs and barbecue facilities. The good sized kitchen/living room has a sofa, armchairs and TV.
The kitchen area is well equipped and includes a fridge-freezer, cooker, dish washer and microwave. There is access to a washing machine in the games room.
The two cottages can be used as one - there is a communicating door between the two - accommodating two or three families and sleeping up to fifteen people.
The pool meets European requirements for safety, and conforms to AFNOR P90-306. It measures nine by five metres and has a constant depth of 1.4 metres - large enough for adults to swim and for small children to have fun with inflatables. There is a swing and lots of space for kids to play and enjoy themselves safely. We have a playroom with table-tennis and other games, and a collection of ten bikes of mixed ages. The surrounding tracks and lanes are safe from traffic.
The Area
Many pretty villages, restaurants and places of interest are nearby, e.g. Aubeterre, St. Aulaye, Brantome and the caves of the Perigord region; Cognac, the Bordeaux wine chateaux and Futuroscope at Poitiers make worthwhile outings.
The lovely beaches around Royan are about One and a half hours away, while there are fantastic surfing beaches to the west of Bordeaux.
Electricity, gas and water are inclusive. We provide bedding, bed-linen and towels (changed weekly). There is a travel cot and a high chair available.
Bookings during July and August are normally taken from Saturday to Saturday; at other times by arrangement.
Mid-week to Mid-week change overs possible during UK school term times - more convenient for linking with cut-price flights.
We would consider discounts for longer lets.
