Les Rosiers is 10 minutes from Lascaux the world famous painted caves. Based at our 3 bedroom fermette (farmhouse) you can explore the area by coming on a CavesandCastles Guided PREHISTORY & CAVE ART TOUR, a MEDIEVAL HISTORY TOUR or on a SELF CATERING HOLIDAY. There is so much to do, you'll be spoilt for choice - and we have a swimming pool which is a constant 25/26 degrees!
The Accommodation
Whether you're hiring Les Rosiers as Holiday Home or coming on one of our Prehistory & Cave Art or Medieval History Guided Tours, our recently renovated farmhouse offers comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people (two doubles and one twin bedded) – each room has its own shower room and is centrally heated for the cooler months and with ceiling fans for when it’s warmer. Have a look at our Guests Comments page on our website to see how much people have enjoyed their holidays here.
The kitchen and living area is spacious and for self-caterers - a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, large fridge and freezer make life easy. (Guided Tour visitors stay on full board terms).
The Pool
The swimming pool to quote one of our guests is “amazing!” - it’s sited in a huge, light and airy ‘sechoir’ – a traditional, louvre-sided, tobacco drying barn. "Wow" is the usual reaction when people see it!
When outdoor pools have been too hot (37º) or too chilly (18º in August), ours was 25-26º because it’s covered and heated. One family chose Les Rosiers because they wanted their children to swim as much as possible - and it's a salt pool, so it's kinder to the skin.. It’s great - whatever the weather!
What's in the Area
Montignac-sur-Vezere is just 5 kilometres from us - it's a lively market town with shops, supermarkets, Post Office and several boulangeries (bakers) that will really tempt you! At the end of July, the town is really buzzing because the annual MUSIC & DANCE FESTIVAL is in full swing - the costumes are fantastic. It's a great time for a self-catering holiday.
The Vezere Valley is known as 'The Cradle of Mankind' - there's so much evidence of our early ancestors, you will be staggered. Famous sites like Lascaux are 10 minutes from our house - the cave you visit is a stunning replica, the paintings are every bit as impressive as the original.
Our Archaeology Tours take in the some of best the area has to offer - but it's not just archaeology - loads of other activities and places to visit are close by. You can fish (the Vezere’s a short stroll away), canoe, cycle, ride, mountain bike, quad bike, play mini-golf, walk or visit adventure parks and trails.
All ages are catered for, the hands-on Prehisto Parc or Roc de Cazelle are great for children. If you like markets, you’re spoilt for choice and could visit a different one every day! (for example Montignac, Sarlat, Terrasson, Les Eyzies, Le Bugue), How do you choose from the 1000+ chateaux that are in the area? – the nearest, Chateau de Losse, is just over the river.
Fancy flint knapping, painting Lascaux style and trying your hand at spear throwing? It's all possible - and not just for children, adults can have a great time too!
There are wonderful gardens, museums, exhibitions - even a chocolaterie which offers workshops and free tastings! And, of course, you can just relax, enjoy the pool and Les Rosiers!
