A beautifully furnished semi-detached house situated in the picturesque “Petit cite de Character” of Jugon les Lacs, a small country town in the heart of the Cote d’Armour. The house has three double bedrooms and is fully equipped to comfortably sleep six people.
Jugon les Lacs is easily reached within 40 minutes from the port and walled city of St Malo, and it takes only 15 minutes to reach medieval Dinan, described by some as one of the prettiest towns in France. Safe, clean, sandy beaches can be found only 30 minutes away at Pleneuf Val-Andre, Erquy and St Cast le Guildo, which are perfect for bucket and spade holidays and sun seekers alike.
The pretty town of Jugon les Lacs lies a short distance from the shores of a large lake, which offers ample opportunities for water sports, fishing, walking and cycling.
The accommodation is as follows:
A traditional tiled hallway, leading to kitchen/dining room, which is fully equipped to a high standard. As well as a washing machine, dishwasher, toaster and electric kettle, there is everything you might need should you wish to try out any of the recipes in the Mediterranean cookbooks provided.
Also leading from the hallway is the south facing lounge, comfortably furnished with sofas, a sideboard (well stocked with games to suit all ages), TV/DVD player and a music centre with a small selection of DVDs and CDs. There is also a wood burning stove - perfect for relaxing in front of with a good book and a glass of wine.
The lounge leads onto the lower veranda, which overlooks the river flowing from the nearby lake. There is a large gas BBQ for alfresco cooking, and steps leading to the upper veranda. Both verandas enjoy full sun from noon until dusk, and have table and chairs, parasol and sun beds. So easy to while away an hour watching birds flying over the water, including kingfishers, ducks wagtails, and seeing who can spot the biggest fish!
On the first floor, there is double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and two further double bedrooms, each with two single beds. All bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space. There is also a further bathroom on this floor, with bath/shower, toilet and bidet.
Quilts, pillows and bed covers are all included in the price, and if you wish, bed linen and towels can be provided for an additional charge. There is a travel cot available (small charge) although you would need to provide your own cot linen.
Jugon les Lacs and the surrounding area:
The holiday cottage at Jugon les lacs is a two minute stroll from the town square which hosts a variety of restaurants, bars and local shops. There is a market in the square each Friday, and the town plays host to several festivals and live music events throughout the summer period.
A few minutes walk from the house lies the 300 hectare lake, which is a popular centre for water sports and fishing alike. Fishing permits are available from the maison de le peche in the town, and the lake is well stocked with a good variety of fish. There are footpaths around the lake for walkers and cyclists, and dingys, canoes and pedalos are available for hire on the lake. There is also a play area by the lake suitable for young children, and an outdoor swimming pool open from May until September.
Further afield, there is plenty of opportunity for walkers and cyclists to explore the beautiful countryside. The Foret d’Hunaudaye is well worth a visit, as is the Chateau d’Hunaudaye. Whether you are heading for the lovely beaches on the coast (approximately 30 minutes away by car) or setting off to visit some of the lovely towns and villages in the area, there are plenty of suggestions and leaflets in the house, or you could visit the tourist information office in the town square.
Getting there
St Malo is the nearest ferry port, being approximately 40 minutes drive from the house. The ports of Caen (2 hours drive) and Cherbourg (3 hours drive) are also easily accessible. Brittany Ferries (www.BrittanyFerries.com) offer a selection of crossings from Portsmouth and Poole, on regular ferry and fast craft, with an ability to mix routes on return journeys. Dinard airport is approximately half an hour from the house, with regular flights from Stansted (Ryanair) – car hire and taxis are available at the airport.
