Chateau de Charras was originally constructed for the Marquis de Charras in the 15th century, its most notable claim to fame are the gardens which were originally designed by Le Notre who was famed for his exquisite gardens at the Palace of Versailles.
Although not so ornate or formal, the parks beauty still echoes this distant era with beautiful walkways through avenues of lime trees and balustrades, terraces and sweeping stone stairways. In fact the 13 acres of walled gardens rank among the finest in the Charente, and are listed by the French Government as a "Monument Historique".
The owners have converted the magnificent Chateau and its estate into an idealic holiday destination. Guests here share the extensive grounds including a swimming pool and tennis courts and spectacular views can be enjoyed all year round. We highly recommend Charras for a relaxing break in this beautiful area.
