Holidays in the southern Charente Gites near Aubeterre

The house is recent conversion within an ancient barn set on the side a gently sloping valley with views across open countryside.

La Maison Tournesol is located in the Southern Charente near the border with the Dordogne. It contains 1 double bedroom and two twin bedrooms. There is a swimming pool which is shared with the three other properties.

Inside
The open plan ground floor has a large living - dining area with a terracotta tiled floor and French windows opening on to a South facing terrace. Barbecue equipment is provided with table and chairs for outdoor eating.

The kitchen is equipped with modern units, electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge-freezer.

There is a downstairs shower and toilet, together with a washing machine.

Upstairs there is a double bedroom with wardrobe and chest of drawers. The two twin bedrooms have modern single beds and chests of drawers.

Family bathroom with bath, shower and toilet.

The house is fitted with electric radiators for use out of season.

Outside
The barn is surrounded by a large grassed area and behind the house is a shaded car parking area with steps leading up towards the swimming pool (12m x 6m). The pool area has marvellous views over the valley.

Location

Within 5 minutes drive is the town of Montmoreau with a supermarket, bank, post office and other shopping facilities.

On the way to Aubeterre, about 8kms away, is the Manoir de Longeveau Country Club with a 9 hole golf course (open to visitors on payment of green fees) and tennis courts (available out of season).

Aubeterre is a pretty village set above the river Dronne which has a swimming beach with canoes for hire. The village square is lined with restaurants and art galleries.

South towards the Dordogne region is the town of Chalais and Riberac with its superb market. To the North is the Cognac region where visits can be made to the famous houses of Hennesy and Courvoiser.

Travel

By car the journey from St Malo is 6-7 hours. Angouleme is 30 minutes away and has a TGV station on the main line from Paris and Lille.

Flights are available to Bergerac and Poitiers which are both about 90 minutes drive away.
