L'Epouvantail (The Scarecrow) is situated in the historic hamlet of Chez Bernardeau close to a Musée Rurale - "Le Vieux Cormenier". The property sleeps up to 5 people plus a baby (cot supplied). All linen is provided.
Accommodation
Upstairs there is a large double bedroom with a cot for baby. The second bedroom is on the ground floor and contains a small double bed plus a single bed on a mezzanine floor. Also on the ground floor there is a large comfortable lounge, furnished in simple cottage style (including a wood burning stove), shower room with wash hand basin and W.C. and a well equipped kitchen.
Outside is a gravelled sitting area (BBQ and table and chairs provided) and there is also an enclosed grassy area, which is available for tenants‚ use.
The area
Festivals, celebrating the traditional way of life of the region, are staged at the Musée Rurale in July and August and, every two years it stages a "Grand Spectacle" involving a large cast of local people.
Close to Chez Bernardeau is the La Vallee des Singes, a beautifully managed wildlife park featuring a huge range of monkeys, chimpanzees and apes in natural surroundings.
For those interested in horse riding there is an excellent equestrian centre at La Ferme Equestre de la Boutier, halfway between Civray and Ruffec.
The Poitou-Charentes region of France is a wonderful area for walking, cycling, bird watching, river fishing and touring by car.
The house is within an easy drive of Poitiers to the North (Futuroscope) and Angoulème to the South (Musee de la Bande Dessinee) and is 5 minutes from the lovely market town of Civray, which has all amenities including a large outdoor swimming pool. River swimming is available by the campsite where there is also a café/bar.
A short drive away is Ruffec which has very good recreational facilities at "L'Aire de Rejallant " on the banks of La Charente. These include picnic areas, kayaking/canoeing, river swimming, fishing and a cafe/restaurant.

Shoulder Months (May, June and September) - £250 per week
High Season (July and August) - £375 per week
10% discount available if additional weeks are booked
N.B. There is a deposit of £50 payable when booking and a security deposit of 150 euros payable on arrival.
L'Epouvantail can be booked with Le Tilleul (The Lime Tree) - a four bedroom stone built house with swimming pool and large grassed garden, on the same site, thus providing accommodation for up to 13 people with additional cot provision for babies as required.
