Welcome to La Seigneurie, at Les Ilhes, 18k from Carcassonne, in the Département of Aude.

The house is of medieval origin. It was the home of the Seigneur, lord of the manor,
who was in turn a vassal of the Seigneur de Cabaret, whose castle is visible from the property.

It retains much of its original character, with vaulted ceilings, a magnificent chestnut staircase and local handmade floor tiles throughout,
with the benefit of more modern comforts such as central heating.

 

  
 

Open for bed and breakfast throughout the year, subject to availability of rooms. We offer three guest bedrooms, all comfortably fitted with traditional furniture:

‘Le Salon’ - 70 Euros per night. Large double bedroom with full bathroom and view of the garden and river. A child’s bed may be provided for this room.

‘La Chambre Bleue’ - 55 Euros per night. Double bedroom with shower room and view of the village square.

‘La Chambre Verte' - 55 Euros per night. Double bedroom with additional full size single bed, with shower room and view of the village square.

The Chambres Bleue and Verte may be taken together, at 100 Euros per night.

Breakfast is included in the room price and we serve fresh, local products, often from our own garden. You may eat in the elegant vaulted ‘salon’, or in the friendly kitchen, where a log fire burns in winter.

We welcome you warmly as personal guests, and, if you simply want to relax, you are invited to enjoy the sunny terrace or the garden, with palm trees, a well stocked fishpond and summerhouse on the banks of the river Orbiel. If the day is chilly, make use of the vaulted sitting room. The house is full of books in a variety of languages and, being an Anglo-French couple, we can help you with any local communication problems. We are always happy to share our local knowledge with you and can help you plan local walks and visits.

Carcassonne is famed for its medieval walled Cité, and the surrounding area is rich in breathtaking scenery. There are Cathar castles, ancient towns and villages, river gorges and garrigue. Mediterannean beaches are just over an hour away and the Pyrenees just a little more.

If you are interested in wine, you will find yourself in one of the most important areas of production in France, offering a wonderful range of wines of different character, according to the direction you take. We can recommend vineyards to visit and advise you on purchases.

Les Ilhes is a tiny, quiet village, situated at the foot of the Montagne Noire, a craggy upland area very popular with walkers and those who love unspoiled countryside. A number of lakes are available for swimming and have refreshment facilities and shady places to relax.

The village itself was famous for its olive trees and used to boast two working oil pressing mills, as well as a small textile factory that used the rushing waters of the Orbiel. Fruit and nut trees of all kinds flourish too.

There is a choice of restaurants within ten minutes’ drive, ranging from cosy village style to elegant dinners. Carcassonne itself, whether you choose to eat in the Cité, or in the Bastide St Louis, is 25 minutes’ drive away. We are happy to make bookings for you.

Finding La Seigneurie is easy:

Ryanair offer daily scheduled flights to Carcassonne from London Stansted, and Toulouse airport (Air France, British Airways) is approximately 90 minutes away.

Les Ilhes is situated North of Carcassonne. Take the D101 and follow signs for the ‘Chateaux de Lastours’. Les Ilhes is 4k beyond Lastours.
